Bringing Red Bull Rampage’s extreme freeride energy into your living room via AR-enhanced broadcast and interactive overlays.
Problem & Partnership
Polyform teamed up with Red Bull, XR Media Group, and Intel to transform the Rampage mountain biking event into a spatial media experience. Through coordinated photogrammetry flights and cloud processing, we captured a hyper-real 3D model of the Utah desert course, accurate in scale, texture, and topography. This model formed the technical backbone for AR integration into the Red Bull TV app, enabling viewers to explore the terrain on their own devices.
During the discovery phase, we mapped out interaction flows that mimic broadcast dynamics—like switching between ride cams, overlaying rider stats, and choosing camera angles. Building on broadcast best practices, the team layered real-time event data, 360° streams, and rider POV content onto spatial markers embedded in the model. The result was a multi-screen experience anchored in real-world context.
Project Description
Our team executed an AR app and embedded in-app AR for both iOS and Android platforms. Users could drop a scaled-down Utah course onto their living room floor, then interact with hotspots, tapping into live 360° footage, rider stats, and path visualizations. Broadcast streams were spatially anchored to virtual “billboards” within the model. Integration was seamless within Red Bull TV, empowering fans with second-screen interactivity during live events.
The solution delivered broke new ground in sports storytelling. Early data showed over 100,000 app downloads on launch day, earning nominations for an AWE Auggie award and winning a Sports Emmy for Outstanding Digital Innovation. By adjoining broadcast and spatial experience, we set a new precedent for immersive event consumption.
