Polyform partnered with Lululemon to rethink the iconic Community Boards, chalkboard-style local info displays in stores. Scouts of tech and UX, we reimagined these simple hubs as intelligent service experiences, designed to be there but not seen, delivering personalized garment pairings, event listings, and local recommendations. We focused on enhancing the world-class in-store brand experience without disrupting its calm, curated environment.

During discovery, we aligned UX flows and hardware requirements, evolving from chalk scrawls to high-end digital interfaces. Working with hardware partner Virtual Visions, we defined the complete product: a 65″ capacitive touchscreen hidden within a mirror, powered by Android, backed by a content management dashboard capable of handling hundreds of units globally.

Project Description

Polyform designed the full stack: hardware spec, mirror firmware, mirror app UI, and remote CMS. The 4′×6′ mirrors seamlessly integrated commerce, social, and local content using pared-back UI that reflected Lululemon’s quiet sophistication. We engineered the hardware to meet store-grade durability, clarity, and responsiveness—all without the look of extra screens.

A pilot in New York and Vancouver rolled into 120 locations with 200+ units. The mirrors recorded over 250,000 monthly interactions—minimal, calming, yet powerful. The project even preceded Lululemon’s acquisition of Mirror, marking a significant evolution in its retail-tech trajectory
